Job Title: Program Manager
Supervisor’s Title: Program Director
Department: Programs
Salary Range: $50,000 – $55,000 DOE
General Description:
This is a programming role within the Programs team. The primary role of this position is to manage and provide oversight for all phases of program planning and implementation to serve people with significant and persistent barriers. This includes the supervision of office and field staff to ensure excellence, safety, and meaningful engagement. The Program Manager works closely with participants, partners, outfitters, sponsors, program leaders, and other No Barriers staff. Programming roles may include camps, expeditions, events, virtual experiences, and online courses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the design, planning, coordination, and successful execution of programs
- Develop and oversee program registration and the application process for scholarship programs
- Manage logistical planning for in-person programs and oversee coordination of tasks
- Manage implementation of policies and procedures including risk management
- Create and reconcile individual program budgets, managing for financial sustainability
- Collaborate with Program Director and Chief Operating Officer to manage the NB mountain campus located in Red Feather, Colorado
- Manage and provide oversight for the gear and supplies inventory and check out/check in procedures in the NB warehouse located in Fort Collins
- Supervise Program Coordinators and Program Leaders, including hiring, onboarding, training, direct supervision of work, and performance reviews; may supervise interns or volunteers
- Oversee post-experience recovery (experience debriefs, equipment recovery, financial reconciliation, program summaries, incident documentation, evaluation surveys, and follow-up communications)
- Provide input into strategic planning process, program design refinement, critical programmatic review, and annual program schedule development
- In collaboration with the Program Director, manage partner relationships (outfitters, equipment sponsors, funders, etc.)
- Utilize the project management system
- Collaborate with Program Director to provide assets and information to Marketing and Development teams
- Manage all systems and processes related to running experience-based programs, and develop new systems and processes as needed
- Be on call during programs as assigned
- Facilitate programming in-person and virtually
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide input during the budget development process
- Contribute to No Barriers communications and marketing efforts
- Provide support for emergency evacuation operations
- Work across departments to create and improve upon operational systems and processes while enhancing interdepartmental relationships
- Contribute to positive organizational culture through intentional actions
- Represent No Barriers at social, informational, professional, and developmental events – participate in synchronization meetings prior to execution

- 5 + years experience working in a professional environment
- Non-profit and/or outdoor recreation/travel/events production industry experience preferred
- Experience working with either veterans, youth, or people with disabilities
- Experience coordinating logistical and operational details for experiential programming, either frontcountry, backcountry, or both.
- Familiarity with outdoor recreation best practices
- Experience leading and designing wilderness programs
- Experience executing adaptive programming
- Ability to develop and facilitate virtual/online experiences
- High-level skills using the Google suite
Education and formal training—
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a field related to communications, education, business management, or recreation or related professional experience
- Wilderness First Responder certification
Work environment—
- Based out of the Fort Collins home office requiring use of a computer
- Option to work remotely some of the time
- Occasional field work to support and/or lead programs
- Occasional field work at the NB mountain campus located in Red Feather, Colorado and at the NB warehouse in Fort Collins
Physical activities—
- Ability to lift 50lbs and carry 50lb pack
- Ability to move boxes that contain program gear and equipment
- Possible travel to domestic or international destination that includes activities such as walking for extended periods of time, carrying luggage and gear, riding in boats, engaging in service projects (that may include painting, construction, planting), and hiking (possibly at high altitudes)

No Barriers has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all employees, including contract staff who have reason to be in contact with program participants. Our goal is to protect the health and safety of our staff and participants. We do allow staff to apply for an exemption to this vaccination policy, which may be granted for medical contraindications or sincerely held religious beliefs. However, because of the nature of most program positions it is likely that approval of an exemption will cause an undue hardship for No Barriers.
