The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers disability housing grants to Veterans and service members with qualifying service-connected disabilities to buy, build, or adapt a home for greater independence. Grant types include the Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) grant (up to $126,526 for FY 2026) for loss of use of limbs, blindness, or severe burns; the Special Home Adaptation (SHA) grant (up to $25,350) for loss of use of hands or certain injuries; and the Temporary Residence Adaptation (TRA) grant (up to $50,961 or $9,100) for temporary stays in a family member’s home. Grants may be used up to six times. Eligible Veterans own or will own the home and meet disability criteria. Veterans apply online via VA Form 26-4555, by mail, or in person.
