The Solar Ready Vets pilot program, launched by the U.S. Department of Energy in 2014, prepares exiting military personnel for careers in the solar energy industry as photovoltaic system installers, sales representatives, inspectors, and other roles. Training leverages veterans’ technical skills through 4-6 week cohorts with hands-on instruction and NABCEP Entry Level Exam preparation. Participants use the DoD SkillBridge program for up to six months of training prior to separation with no out-of-pocket costs. The program operated at military bases in 10 states and graduated 526 students before transitioning to independent base-administered programs.
