The Automotive Power Solutions group of onsemi seeks a skilled and motivated engineering technician to support the applications engineering team with high quality power electronics laboratory work.  This includes developing test assemblies where electro-mechanical integration is key.  The successful candidate will help conceive, design, fabricate, assemble, operate, and maintain bench-top setups that test the performance of onsemi parts for real-life applications.  The Automotive Power Solutions group is developing state-of-the-art silicon and silicon-carbide power electronic systems to enable vehicle electrification globally.  This position offers the opportunity to develop electro-mechanical hardware, teststand control software, interfaces between digital controllers and the test apparatus, working with high accuracy instrumentation in a power laboratory, while developing 3D CAD modeling and computer simulation skills.  If you are looking for a position where you can work with your hands and your mind while helping to develop new products for the rapidly growing vehicle electrification market, consider applying for this exciting position!

Additional duties will include managing the calibration of laboratory equipment, ensuring good housekeeping, maintaining supply stock, identifying equipment needs, abiding by and enforcing safe operating procedures, and helping maintain ISO certification.

 

Qualifications
Minimum 5 years experience in an electronics or electro-mechanical laboratory environment.

Ability to translate schematics, block diagrams and verbal descriptions into functioning hardware, and willingness to ask questions, seek clarification, and give guidance to senior colleagues when needed.

Skilled with typical electronics lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, LCR meters, waveform generators, current probes, high voltage/high current power supplies, hand held meters, soldering, PCB troubleshooting.

Skilled with workroom tools such as drill press, band saw, benchtop milling machine.

Familiarity with LabView software (or similar graphical programming environments) and digital controllers (such as NI CompactRIO) is preferred

Familiarity with switching power electronic circuits preferred.

Familiarity with concepts of heat transfer, power dissipation, and cooling of test setups,

Ability to manipulate data in Excel or other engineering calculation software (such as Matlab).

Experience with printed circuit board design and/or circuit simulation in tools such as Spice or Simetrix will be a plus.

Associates Degree in related field or equivalent professional experience.
