Business Need / Purpose of Role:

Perform duties required to assemble knife-gate valves heavy and light pumps (acid and water) and valves having close tolerances and operating requirements where fitting, alignment, and adjustment of internal components are critical. Perform skilled fitting of bearings, rings, using press into acid pump and valves.

 

Objectives & Measurement

Key Responsibilities and Specific Accountabilities:

Including but not limited to:

 

·         Place and secure slings on large pumps and valves on hoist or overhead crane to position or align such parts for assembly.

·         Mount, fit, and align parts to insure free action and movement, tolerance fit and operating requirements, following detailed drawings.

·         Responsible for Environmental, Health and Safety management and policy commitments as prescribed for this role in Weir’s Duty of Care.

·         Place acid pump in tower using hoist, connecting to steam jacket to test for water and air leaks.

·         Pressure test valves for leakage following established guidelines.

·         Transport finished pumps and valves to shipping using overhead crane, forklift, or hand dolly.

·         Notify supervisor of problems encountered during assembly or testing.

·         Notify inspection of completed pumps and values.

Mathematical:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

Basic computer operation skills, (Word, Excel)

Manufacturing environment/work near moving mechanical parts/PPE required
